Thank you for any size donation! All donations go for a new augmentative alternative communication device for some adult with computer access issues. Augmentative communication devices allow people with verbal and/or hand disabilities communicate and access computers at closer to a normal rate. When people have difficulties using a computer keyboard, writing can be laborious. Most of us are doomed to type in single digits. When the average Internet user types 20 words a minute, we are at a disadvantage when we type 5 words a minute. However, augmentative communication devices give us rate enhancements, such as word prediction, abbreviation expansion, words on buttons. With my augmentative communication device, I can type three times as fast as I can with a normal computer keyboard. I don't have the strength to use a keyboard anymore. These devices give us easier mouse access. These are expensive, about $8000. Though medical insurances often will buy them for people who can't talk, they don't buy them for people with hand use disabilities. Having an augmentative communication device can mean the difference between having a job and being unemployed.
